Living in the Spirit of Christmas

I felt like sharing something that seems like it should be shared during the season. However if we live in the Spirit of Christ the Spirit of [Christ]mas will be within our hearts all year long

We all love that time of year, snow (depending if you get snow), Christmas trees, presents, decoration, lights, and many more things. However, just like all Holidays, Christmas has fallen subject to becoming more commercial. We see it all over the place; candy, wrapping paper, Christmas TV specials and many more. If we think about the very origin to all of this we will be able to see where all of the Christmas season has come from

It started long before the meridian of time and long before Christ was born. There were prophets of in the Old Testament time period that prophesied the coming of Jesus Christ. One of those prophets, Isaiah did just that. Isaiah was a prophet and we can see all that he has prophesied about Jesus Christ. He wrote scriptures that talked about Jesus Christ's birth, life, Atonement , death, and resurrection.

"Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall call his name Immanuel." (Isaiah 7:14)

"He shall feed his flock like a shepherd; he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are young." (Isaiah 40:11)

"Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the string because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors." (Isaiah 53:12)

"He was oppressed and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth." (Isaiah 53:7)

"Thy dead men shall live together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in the dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead." (Isaiah 26:19)

Isaiah was just one of many prophets that testified of Jesus Christ. We recorded in the Book of Mormon that also prophesy about Jesus Christ. Of these were Nephi, Jacob, Enos, King Benjamin, Abinadi, Alma the elder and his son Alma the younger, Amulek, Samuel the Lamenite, and many more. There were many prophets that prophesied of Jesus Christ and told everyone of his life and what he was going to do for the people of the world. Now you might think: "Well what does this have to do with Christmas?" Well interestingly enough, you find the word, Christ in the word Christmas. People oft times think about gifts and things to buy for people and yes that is true, but do we need to have the commercialism get int he way of the true meaning of Christmas? Just like the wise-men of old who understood the importance of giving gifts to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, do we have the same focus? Think about what was testified of by the prophets. Jesus Christ would suffer and would make the Infinite Atonement or the infinite sacrifice to give all of us the gift to have everlasting life

Here are a few videos that can explain this well;
If we think more on Jesus Christ at Christmas we will begin to realize what President Monson has said;
"To catch the real meaning of Christmas, we need only drop the last syllable and it becomes the spirit of Christ."
What does Christmas mean to you? I hope that everyone can have the spirit of Christmas in their hearts all year round by applying what the true meaning of Christmas is really about. Think about what it really means the next time you see a tree, or Christmas lights, presents, snow. If we direct our thoughts towards the Savior when that time of year comes around we will have the true focus of what that season should be all about.
